Girl with Hedgehog

Girl with Hedgehog

A girl with a hedgehog. This seems to be a painting commissioned by me. A girl with a thick cascade of thin frizzy hair with a hedgehog in the crook of her arm, all envisioned following the mystique of the famous Mona Lisa.

This lovely painting was done by Fatima Ronquillo and with her gracious permission is now the background art for my blog. I feel honored. Ms. Ronquillo is a self-taught artist, pure talent through and through. She is a Filipina whose art is now reknowned in the USA and is another addition to our Filipino pride. Visit her blog here at WordPress (www.fatimaronquillo.wordpress.com) and say “Mabuhay ka!” She’ll understand.

Vintage clothes for my tech toy

I eventually gave in to this Apple Ipad 2 mania after having slow connection problems with my Galaxy Tab. I felt all the raves for the IPad are just well, raves. But after working with it for 24 hours, I am a convert.

I’m an iPhone 4 user having upgraded from an iPhone 3G. I initially thought the iPad is just a bigger iPhone so I bought the Tab instead and I was thoroughly disappointed. So yesterday I got myself an Ipad 2 wifi only color black 16GB. The most basic of all the variants. Actually I was torn between the two colors but well my boys were pining for the black and I was outnumbered.

Now the next step after buying an expensive gadget is of course the case or in myspeak, clothes for tech toys. I always like my cases to stand out like my iPhone 4 which sports a silicone cover that makes it look like a digital camera. I got it at Siam Paragon, Bangkok and love it so much. Now I wanted to go the unique path again with my IPad 2 cover and I found this.

This is the Bookbook for Ipad 2 by Twelve South. It costs $69.99 and stands out from the rest of the blacks and neutral modern-looking cases in the market. On the outside it looks like an old, well-read, hardbound book found at antique shops. The cover is of faux distressed leather with leather strips on the spine. Closure is a double zip where the zipper pull looks like a leather bookmark. The inside is of a plush microfiber material that won’t scratch your gadget.

To help prop up your IPad 2 while viewing movies, it has a string that will anchor the case in a V-position. A how to guide is offered at the company’s website.

On the spine the book title says BookBook and the author is T. South.

My PROS:
1. Unique style as a vintage hardbound book
2. Sturdy case to protect your Ipad 2
3. A deterrent from possible thieves who won’t think that this old book has an expensive gadget inside

My CONS:
1. Adds a bit of weight to the Ipad2 but not too much. Will try to weigh it when I get an accurate scale.
2. The zipper doesn’t zip around smoothly but I hope it will after some usage.
3. Using it in landscape mode with anchoring the string is a chore. If used frequently, all those switching may cause something to snap after a while.

In conclusion, the aesthetics outweigh the function for the moment. I love reading and that old school feel of holding a vintage book is just a winner for me, even if in reality I’m actually busy bagging that expert score at Diner Dash.

More gowns for Analyn

Analyn seems to like modern cuts for her outfits. She’s planning a grand party for Cassandra and requested me to design more gowns for her lovable cat.

HER REQUEST:

  • a navy blue gown
  • a navy blue gown
  • Crystal wedding gown set

THE BLUE GOWN

A dark blue gown with fully beaded bodice and satin ballgown skirt. Lace and beads combine on the headpiece and black beaded sandals complete the look.

THE RED GOWN

This deep red gown shows off a simple clean front with red beaded straps

the nice surprise is at the back that boasts of cascading ribbons that sparks just the right interest.

a red rose as headpiece and black beaded baguette breaks the plain monotony of the front.

THE CRYSTAL WEDDING GOWN SET

The Crystal wedding gown has an A-line lace body with beads, closed white roses, and sheer illusion veil. The cream sandals represent the something old in the famous bride’s poem:

“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”

The veil can be swept back to reveal the bride’s face for that much awaited first kiss.

Madame C went shopping

Madame C loves to shop! Whether browsing inside a beautifully set store, clicking that WATCH or BUY IT NOW button at online stores, or rummaging through garage sales with dusty items, Madame C is ready to shop. Looking at objet d’art is just joy to her senses. Typical everyday objects but artistically made that you can sense the care and passion that went into the creation of such item tickles her fancy. And she also gets her inspiration from these shopping strolls.

Today, she passed by her favorite realtor and closed the deal on a beautiful simple two-storey building. She plans to convert this into a shoe store to better display her sandals and footwear collection. The ground floor area will serve as the boutique with fabulous displays of sandals. On the second floor will be the work station for her beloved seamstresses and stocks of materials and ready to ship items. The roofdeck will be a cozy place to have tea and cookies with her clients and friends.

Just a block from her new building, she passed by a garage sale with various must-have items. She saw a birdhouse that will go well with her garden, a schooldesk for her boys, a grandfather clock for the new store, and yarns in a basket for knitting.

What excited her most is a small vintage sewing machine that will be used as a display at her new shop. This will definitly be a nice conversation piece.

Grandma and Grandpa

GRANDMOTHER CLOTHES

Typically, grandparent sizes are much like the older brother and sister of complete family lines. Here, I used the father and mother sizes of a typically Rabbit character for standard sizing.

All shawls on grandmothers are removable and dresses can be worn as they are.
